In 2018, Penthouse announced that a new Director's Cut of the film was being edited by Alexander Tuschinski, with the approval of Brass's family. The script was later adapted into a novelisation written by William Johnston under the pseudonym William Howard. However, the film is considered to be a cult classic with significant merit for its political content and historical portrayal. As a result, Brass also disavowed the film.Ĭaligula 's release was met with legal issues and controversies over its violent and sexual content multiple cut versions were released worldwide, while its uncut form remains banned in several countries. This version, released to Italian cinemas in 1979 and American cinemas the following year, disregarded the director's intentions to present the film as a political satire. Mockumentaries have to walk a fine line between reality and satire. Gotta give it to Lonely Islands original soundtrack and stage performance, and acting. Which seemingly starts off as a brainless comedy romp ends with a fairly emotional bang.Great Production: 2.0 StarsWhile most of the scenes film from the "reality tv" style camera work (which they make fun of) the soundtrack, set design and wardrobes are all top notch.

Good Writing: 1.5 StarsThe first half of the movie has the writing style of the tv show "MTV Cribs". It doesn't make or break the movie, but it does take you out of the moment, and all these little things add up.Also had a little bit of a Payday vibe, which I appreciate. Like when a machine gun is firing but has no recoil. It's understandable, within the confines of a movie like this, but it still has a negative impact on the tale overall. Of course no one's done it quite as well as Dusk till Dawn, but I'm always willing to give them a chance (this year's "Don't Breathe" looks like it has potential in that category as well).Henry Rollins is outstanding, but otherwise the cast is pretty low quality. I like these flip-the-script type crime thrillers. As it stands, it is instead just "Not bad". With some more money, some better talent a little more forethought, The Last Heist could have been something truly miraculous.
